slielogo.jpgABOUT THE SIERRA LEONE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS

The Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers (SLIE) and the Professional Engineers Registration Council (PERC) emerged out of the Sierra Leone Association of Technologists which was formed in the early sixties and included professionals such as Engineers, Architects, Surveyors, Town Planners, Radiographers and Laboratory Technicians.  Its aims and objectives were to promote the technical and professional development of its members and positively enhance their participation in their expected roles in the community.

The membership of the Association grew in size, and it was soon realized that the majority of its members were Engineers, and that the Sierra Leone Association of Technologists could not fully address the problems relating to the practice of Engineering in Sierra Leone.  This led to the formation of the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers in 1970 with the following aims and objectives:

•        Securing the advancement and facilitating the acquisition of knowledge which constitutes the application of Engineering in all its branches, and with particular application in Sierra Leone, for the betterment of man by the use of any or all of the following mean:
•        Promoting and maintaining the unity, public usefulness, honour and interests of its members and making known the objectives of the Institution.
•        Fostering linkage between the engineering institution and industry
•        Promoting sound engineering practice
•        Promoting engineering education in schools
•        Promoting gender participation in engineering.
•        Holding periodic meetings for members of the Institution
•        Assisting by all means available and initiating action connected with widespread dissemination of engineering knowledge in Sierra Leone.
•        Arrange the delivery of public lectures, talks, convocation of seminars for discussions of subjects related to the objects of the Institution, and making recommendations there from.
